About Annie
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, surrounded by the kind of music that gets into your bones - jazz, blues, soul, and pop. From an early age I was performing, and Detroit gave me my first real stages: Motor City Casino, MGM Grand, the floor of the Detroit Pistons singing the National Anthem, and the airwaves of Honda and Chevrolet commercials.
In 2010, I left Detroit for Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, where I earned my Bachelor of Music in Music Business Management and Songwriting in 2013. At Berklee, I learned much about how the music industry works, how songs are built, and how to move through a professional music world.
In 2013, I moved to New York City. I briefly interned at AM Only, an EDM agency, but felt that artistry and teaching was more of my calling. I began taking on voice students, and in 2014 I founded The Vocal Lab NYC, what would become a ten-year chapter of my life. By 2022, The Vocal Lab had grown to fifteen instructors, serving singers, performers, and professionals across the United States (and internationally, as well!).
New York was also where I deepened my own training and artistry. In 2018, I studied classical voice at the Evening Division of The Juilliard School under Kurt Alakulppi. That same year, and again in 2020, I completed Voice Pedagogy certifications at Westminster Choir College. In 2020, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Dr. Kari Ragan's Voice Teaching Practicum. Also in 2020, I met Dr. Laura Rushing-Raynes, former Voice Chair at Boise State University, who became one of my greatest teaching mentors.
Throughout my New York years I kept performing at Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Electric, and Pianos, and beyond. In 2019, I had the privilege of performing with Ted Sperling's Master Voices choir in a choral production of Let Them Eat Cake at Carnegie Hall. That same year I released my debut single "My Lover, I Don't Need You," premiering on Montez Press Radio and music publication BTR Today. In November 2019, the full EP Paint My Lover - a pop, opera, and electronic project produced with Ghidrah Music (Apoena Frota, Andre Vasconcelos, and Joe Ulmer) - arrived. The accompanying music video was selected for the Short to the Point Film Festival in Prague, the Lift-Off Film Festival in Los Angeles, and Austin Under the Stars in the best new music video category.
In 2023, I closed The Vocal Lab NYC and relocated to Boise, Idaho, where I founded Annie Pichan Voice Studio. In 2025, I completed my Level I certification in the Lovetri Method, and I remain an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
I teach private and semi-private voice lessons in classical and contemporary (CCM) singing styles, as well as speech and presentation to litigators, public speakers, and executives.
